Workshops and Projects

“Photographs are footprints of our minds, mirrors of our lives, reflections from our hearts, frozen memories that we can hold in silent stillness in our hands — forever if we wish. They document not only where we have been, but also point the way to where we might perhaps be heading, whether or not we realize this yet ourselves…” (Judy Weiser)

Conscious Photography Workshops.
A mindful attitude means constantly asking yourself the questions: What? Why? How?
In the process of personal growth one must seek the answers to the questions: Who am I? Why am I here? What do I do and why ? Why do I do it for? If the photographic process is conscious, many questions can be answered.

PSYCHOLOGY AND PHOTOGRAPHY CONNECTION: Psychology and photography offer us another view, both of the world and of our interior. Thus, this is precisely the point where they connect... forming a wonderful and useful union to explore and express ourselves. In both psychology and photography: - Mental representations are present. - the cognitive world is present and manifests itself.

PHOTOTHERAPY: Psychologist encourage the use of photos by the client in the sessions. The therapist’s primary role is to encourage and support clients’ own personal discoveries while exploring and interacting with their personal and family snapshots. PhotoTherapy is not about interpreting people’s photos for them; instead, the input should always come from the client, guided by their therapist’s photo-stimulated questions, while both explore the image and its emotional impact together.
During PhotoTherapy sessions, photos are not just passively reflected upon in silent contemplation, but also they are: actively created during sessions (or after), posed for, talked with, listened to, reconstructed, revised to form or illustrate new narratives, newly taken or collected on assignment (as “homework assignments” before the next therapy session), re-visualized in memory or imagination, integrated into art therapy creative expressions, or even set into animated dialogue with other photos — all of which allows clients to better reach, understand, and express parts of themselves in ways that were previously not possible.

THERAPEUTIC PHOTOGRAPHY AND PHOTOVOICE WORKSHOPS:

Therapeutic Photography is the name for photo-based activities that are self-initiated and conducted by oneself (or as part of an organized group or project), but where no formal therapy is taking place. In contrast with PhotoTherapy techniques — which are therapy practices — Therapeutic Photography techniques are photographic* practices, where the intended goal is to produce positive change in individuals, couples, or families — but they also include broader Social Action Photography techniques where the goal is to improve well-being, reduce social exclusion, and create positive change at community, societal, national, or international levels.
*Therapeutic Photography does not mean just only photo-taking.
It also includes other photo-interactive activities, such as photo-viewing, -posing, -planning, -discussing, or even just only remembering or imagining photographs.
